a application is not bloated only because it's 30mb in size. 30mb is nothing. buy a bigger harddisk. your 10gb disk is to small.
comodo adds a 5th layer, rootkit detection. this suite is just incredible, and all the average person will ever need. they have even more advanced functionality in the works called dacs. it's a stunning development, and uses pooled definitions from most of the other av developers.
i am very happy with burrrn because it is a small and simple program which does the disk-at-once burning which i need for operas. i am using burrrn version 1.14 beta 2 with xp home sp2. there is a convenient "disk info" button which verifies that you have a blank disk in the drive and it tells you the capacity of the disk in minutes. after adding files to the burn list you can drag and drop them to get them in the correct order. the total length of all files to be burned is given in a box on the rhs of the window so you can verify that you are not trying to put too much music on the disk. i had to uncheck all the boxes under settings/replay-gain because the default setting with "dither" gave noisy recordings with my wav files. i had been using nero express 5.5 on my old computer but it is an oem version which would not transfer to my new computer and i did not want to buy a copy of the latest nero bloatware. i find burrrn to be easier to use than nero and a lot smaller. i am using burrrn in conjunction with audiograbber, a free ripper, which does an excellent job of avoiding the copy protection that is often inserted in cd recordings of operas. nero 5.5 could not deal with the copy protection problems so the combo of audiograbber and burrn is very simple and much more effective than nero.
other than personal preference, i cannot find any reason that people continue using ms office.
i find .net totally useless. the only software i ever use that needs it is turbotax and that's only one week out of the year, if that. i just happen to like turbotax, what can i say. after my tax filing is done this bloatware gets uninstalled pronto. any other software i might try to install that requires .net gets appropriately cancelled. there's plenty of other software alternatives out there that don't require this mess being on your system, including all the endless security updates/service packs that come with it.update: i also forgot that starting with version 4, ms .net starts an ngen service automatically that slows down pc boot time considerably, particularly your lan connection. very frustrating. yes, it can be disabled in services, however, with each new update to .net 4.x(which seems to come every couple of months), the service gets set to automatic again. that's even more frustrating.@zoroasteri've come across that too... a software installer that was very, very small in size but was wanting to install that .net behemoth for it to work. that's just totally ridiculous.
does not allow you to pick an install directory. continually tries to access the internet. the mioengine.exe would not terminate during the uninstall process, had to do it manually. probably because i wouldn't let it out through my firewall. it may be a nice program but i refused to try to go any further after all of the above.
i use this tool at work on a 2.2ghz dual-core laptop and the performance is fine. if you just want a simple snapshot tool, then you might consider this bloated, but if you want the the swiss army knife of snapshot software, look no further. some of the enhanced features, such as the image editor, image format conversion, stamps, etc are a nice touch. maybe not best of breed, but much better than nothing (which is what i would have if i had to justify the purchase of these features to my is dept). i'm sure many of you know what i mean.so i rate this 5-stars for ease of use, performance, stability and the fact that i really need and use this tool every day and am quite satisified with it.
actually msi unpacker has been available for years (jsware.net).
not a lot of features in this comic reader, it doesn't get updated often, but it is absolutely my favorite comic reader by far of all windows comic readers i've seen so far. i do wish it had gesture control for wen i'm reading remotely via an ipad via splashtop or remote desktop, but ah well. i still like this reader the best so far.
