old, outdated, way past its "best before " date.if you really don't care about what your music sounds like (which is the vast majority of users - i get that) then this is for you.if you do care, there's foobar2000, xmplay and aimp - all are well designed and coded, more full-featured regarding audio quality and much lighter.also they don't feature crapware.@music4ever:now i understand your nym, given your setup. on linux give deadbeef a try. i did audacious and it was ok until i tried deadbeef. imnsho, that's foobar on linux.two stars for mediocrity at its finest.

lol this is bizare, when w2k came out they said dxr3 would no longer be supported. creatives product support (esp the drivers) is so crappy.

if you get zoom player free, it downloads "all" the individual codecs for you so whats the point?

over the years i've tried different versions of this search tool, and have spent 3 or 4 hours trying to use it from different computers, and for different search scenarios. cons:> no built in fileviewer> only search by filename, and not file contents (no full text search!!)> doesn't search network shares.> ui very limited, and in my opinion basically unusable.> http/etp/ftp server functionality (wasted too much time trying to get this working properly on multiple servers and workstation). also this server is a *sizable* security hole (not a good idea to add a server into an application, unless you want malware and hackers getting in).> installs user data into c:\programs files\, which skirts development practices for vista, win7 and win8. > other issues: no autoupdate mechanism, esc closes the application (another bad development practice), etc.pros:> free (better search tools exist: google (ok), microsoft (ok- for searching lots of text files), locate32 (ok+), and mo-search (the only one i use every day) > options dialog provides lots of checkboxes (don't improve my search experience)> people seem to download this, and i surmise some like it (not sure why)every year or two i'll really spend time testing a bunch of desktop search tools. but (thus far) they all frustrate, and prevent me from finding what i need, and lack an integrated fileviewer, lack truly ranked results, and lack common search filtering capabilities. the only one i run on all my workstations and servers is mo-search (also free).

i must concur wit the review stating why pay to replace freeware bloated overly complex unituitive windows media player with an even more complex bloated unintuitive lookalike? but wait! you can also enjoy your posts on the support forum being habitually greeted with snide insults from the official company posters including the ceo, who instantly deletes posts which he deems derogatory or heaven forbid mention a competing product. the company claims audiophile sound quality beyond the competitors, yet few ppl even have an audiophile digital playback setup to even evaluate let alone validate the claim.

still a great product. go out and waste money on a paper calender for the people who hate this.

mo-search saved my life - or at least hours and hours of work. i've been doing a lot of revision of a lengthy academic paper and in cutting and pasting footnotes, i lost some of my original source documentation. fortunately, i had saved a pre-revision copy and, with appropriate word choices, i was able to use mo-search to find the unedited footnotes in the unrevised manuscript to get me straightened out again in the revision document. i have lots and lots of word files on my computer and i've found this program to be a tremendous help. you have to noodle around in it a bit to find all the features, but it's worth it. one hint i've found is that when you get ready to open a word document (either file or folder), you can click on mo-search from that screen and search just that file or folder. it really is a terrific program. thank you to the software writer for making it available.
